Local Protest Will Call on Leaders to Keep Their Hands Off Our Rights, Our Democracy, and Our Future
BAKERSFIELD, CA — On Saturday, April 5, Bakersfield residents will join thousands of people across the country in a coordinated National Day of Action to defend democracy, constitutional rights, and essential freedoms under attack. The “HANDS OFF!” protest, part of a growing resistance in partnership with 50501 (50 Protests, 50 States, 1 Movement) and allied organizations, will take place at the Liberty Bell, 1415 Truxtun Ave, Bakersfield, CA.
Communities are coming together to say:
Hands off our healthcare. Hands off our bodies. Hands off our libraries and schools. Hands off our democracy.
This is not just about one person or one policy—it’s about protecting our future.
“We are supposed to hurt when others hurt. We are supposed to feel for the suffering of our neighbors. That empathy is not what some are calling toxic; it’s what makes us human,” says Lindsey Parker, volunteer organizer & Bakersfield parent.
“Let yourself feel that, and then take action. We won’t let the atrocities and callousness we’re seeing go unchecked—not in our country, not in our community, not on our watch.”
“The people of Bakersfield won’t stay silent,” added Enie Fryer, a local volunteer organizer and Kern resident.
“This protest is about hope, unity, accountability, and the responsibility we all share to build a future where everyone can thrive. This movement belongs to all of us.”
“The perception that folks in our community aren’t paying attention to these cuts and are supportive of this administration is false,” says Neel Sannappa, a local Bakersfield organizer.
“Folks have woken up to the reality that this administration only represents one class of people—the billionaires. They are extracting resources that working families in Kern rely on to survive. Our community is ready to fight back and win for the working class.”
Thousands have gathered across the country under the 50501 banner to demand justice, equity, and accountability—reminding leaders that democracy belongs to the people.
Community members are encouraged to show up, spread the word, and demand accountability from elected officials and powerful corporations threatening the foundational rights of everyday Americans.
This is a peaceful demonstration exercising our First Amendment rights to assemble, speak freely, and demand accountability from our government and institutions.
🕊️ Protesting works. It brings people together, holds leaders accountable, and sparks real change.
50501 (50 Protests, 50 States, 1 Movement) is a national grassroots movement launched to protest the policies and actions of the second Trump administration. Since February 2025, 50501 has led three mass mobilizations, drawing thousands to state capitols and city halls across America.
This movement is powered by regular people – not politicians. From small towns to big cities, we’re organizing, marching, and building a future rooted in justice, equity, and collective power.
We are your neighbors—parents, workers, students, and community members coming together to build a better Bakersfield. We’re passionate volunteers advocating for progress, equity, and hope. This movement belongs to all of us.
